Part of our Workforce Development Programme offering professional development for Music Education Hub staff, this online course, led by Carmel Cardona, founder of Stitch Your Parachute, will equip you with the knowledge and strategies to build your personal and professional resilience. Over six weekly sessions, Carmel will explain the theoretical underpinnings of resilience, incorporating concepts from neuroscience and post-traumatic growth, and introduce her framework of The Five Pillars of Resilience. She will guide participants to develop a clear understanding of their own individual strengths and stress triggers, and give them practical exercises and strategies to adapt the framework for their own particular circumstances. Registration is capped in order to create an intimate and supportive environment. Come prepared to learn, join in and share.

Course structure
Session 1: Welcome and intro. Defining resilience; resiliency check-in; the neuroscience behind resilience; introduction to the Five Pillars of Resilience
Session 2: Know Thyself: uncovering and communicating our strengths; self-reflection and self-awareness; soliciting good quality feedback
Session 3: Cultivate Your Purpose: considering role models and defining our values; connecting our values with our work; creating a personal Mission Statement; how a strong Purpose underpins resilience
Session 4 : Nurture Relationships: the importance of connection; altruism and asking for help; building and leaning on our network; rethinking vulnerability
Session 5: Deepen Your Wisdom: changing habits; building new neural pathways; cultivating a growth mindset; rethinking failure
Session 6: Feed Your Joy: mental nutrition; bringing our whole selves to work; eudaimonic happiness; the importance of play; overview summary of course
What will participants gain from the course?
Participants will come away with a foundational understanding of resilience, and elements of neuroscience and related theories of growth mindset and post-traumatic growth.
They will develop self-awareness of their own stress triggers, strengths and resiliency.
They will have a suite of practical strategies they can use to nurture their own resilience.
They will also be able to support their colleagues and teams with the learnings from this course.
About Carmel Cardona
Carmel is the founder of social enterprise Stitch Your Parachute, building personal and organisational resilience. She delivers training and 1:1 coaching in resilience, leadership, and professional wellbeing. She provides strategic consultancy to organisations, conducting needs analysis, facilitation and business coaching, primarily in the creative industries, charity sector, international development and health. She brings knowledge from two decades in senior leadership in the cultural sector to this work, as well as training from the LSE and the NeuroLeadership Institute.
